New LSX pictures

I have been away from blogging a lot this year because I have been involved in lots of conferences and also participating in the campaign for my judge's re-election. After Nov. 2, I will pick back up again!

Johnny has shared pictures of the LSX prototype. Here they are for your viewing pleasure:

Hail the new LSX keyboard!

There are several programmable keys, such as:
The pentagon-shaped keys between the vowel keys.
Three areas on the asterisk key.
All four sensors on the far left auxiliary key.
The two round keys to the side of the vowel keys.
There are also now sensors under the braille-like dots between the * and F, the * and R, T and D, S and Z. Those sensors will also be programmable. That will permit those that do not use wide keys to program the sensors to be one or the other, that is, i.e., either -T or -D.
Of course, the LSX is the model that has a single sensor under what was formerly the crack.
All the various combinations of the upper and lower consonant keys can now be accurately achieved by touching one's finger(s) on the areas containing the braille-inspired dots.

The LSX model will sell for $3,000.
If you have purchased -- and not returned -- the first generation of silicone overlay writers, you can have your keyboard assemblies upgraded to the LSX model for no additional charge.
More information will be forthcoming between now and the national convention.

For those of you who prefer the original LightSpeed, 200 units of the original LightSpeed design, now referred to as the LightSpeed Classic, are now in advanced stages of manufacture by the same group of engineers who initially made them and should be available to start shipping sometime in June.

New LSX

Hi, LightSpeeders!

Here is a new deal for the new, improved silicon overlay, or LSX, which is not out yet and we have no estimated date.

Johnny has determined that the silicon overlay is not sensitive enough. He has developed a new silicon overlay, the LSX, which will have softer silicon and some modifications: adding more sensors to make the sensitivity equal to the original LS, sensors under the cracks (woot!) and dedicated keys to the AO and EU. Don't ask me how this is going to look, because I have no idea. I don't have a concept or other picture. Someone posted on here that Carmen had a picture in California, but I haven't seen it.

If you have a silicon overly LS, you can send it in and have the new overlay (when it's ready, and, no, I don't know when that will be) installed in your writer. There will be an extension of the warranty for the reporters who have bought the current silicon overlay model. The new LSX overlay will be installed at no cost and their warranty extended a year from that date.

He has said, if you plan on having the new LSX installed in your current silicon overlay, you can trim the ridges without voiding the warranty. The new LSX will be $3,000. We will let the original LS owners to trade in at the 100% policy on the LSX or the StarLight, which will have the same keyboard as the LSX.

I'm off to find the razor blade to trim my ridges!

Lapdesk

Many LS users don't like the tripod and put the writer in their lap. You may want a lapdesk if you decide to use it in your lap. The best one I've found is the Pengad mini beanbag lapdesk at http://www.pengad.com/shop-laptop/beanbag_table.html
It's the second one on the page, and it's only $20!

Carmen will be there with the LightSpeeds. Go by and visit him!

Alabama Court Reporters Association

I had a great time at the ACRA Midwinter Conference! Many people stopped by to write on my new PINK LightSpeed with the new overlay. There were a lot of comments from people who prefer the feel of the new one over the original.

I'm calling her Bubblegum, because that is how pink she is.

New LightSpeeds delivered!

It's been a long delay, but the new LightSpeeds are finally being received by the customers. My friend Mary received hers today and came straight over to play!

There are added ridges that were not on the prototypes we had at the NCRA convention in August, and I think they're a good improvement.

Other things I learned today:
The blue light does not come on unless something has gone wrong with your SD card. Previously, it flashed when you turned on your writer and when the LS was saving to disk.

If you pop out the SD card, the writer turns off and pops a message up on your computer screen, so you know that it's popped out. Previously there was no notification if it popped out. You just pop it back in, turn on the writer, and continue.

There is a new GUI with the writer which I have not explored completely. More on that later!
