I guess I didn't say *which* November 2nd I was talking about in the last post!

The LSX has been put in cold storage. I think it was probably before its time. Hopefully it will show up again in the future.

The new LS which will be out in the next couple of weeks is the LSQ, a LightSpeed and a computer keyboard in a machined-aluminum case. A little heavier, but sturdy on your lap. I posted a picture on the Stenovations FaceBook page at https://www.facebook.com/#!/StenovationsInc

I've taken it out on my jobs this week. It is great to be able to edit in my transcript without scooting around and moving my hands up to the computer and away from my machine. This is the first week I've not used my red LS, and I miss her a little bit!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com93tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1750971156860822982.post-54358020609129526882010-10-08T18:27:00.005-05:002010-10-08T18:32:30.000-05:00New LSX picturesI have been away from blogging a lot this year because I have been involved in lots of conferences and also participating in the campaign for my judge's re-election. Those sensors will also be programmable. That will permit those that do not use wide keys to program the sensors to be one or the other, that is, i.e., either -T or -D.
Of course, the LSX is the model that has a single sensor under what was formerly the crack.
All the various combinations of the upper and lower consonant keys can now be accurately achieved by touching one's finger(s) on the areas containing the braille-inspired dots.

The LSX model will sell for $3,000.
If you have purchased -- and not returned -- the first generation of silicone overlay writers, you can have your keyboard assemblies upgraded to the LSX model for no additional charge.
More information will be forthcoming between now and the national convention.

For those of you who prefer the original LightSpeed, 200 units of the original LightSpeed design, now referred to as the LightSpeed Classic, are now in advanced stages of manufacture by the same group of engineers who initially made them and should be available to start shipping sometime in June.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1750971156860822982.post-16573847145702803852010-05-07T09:26:00.003-05:002010-05-07T09:27:18.792-05:00digitalCAT and LS training Charlotte, NCStenovations is accepting registrations for a nationwide training to be held in Charlotte, North Carolina on June 7th and 8th, 2010, with training director John Sims.

DigitalCAT training will be held the entirety of the 7th and half of the training day on the 8th. I look forward to seeing you there. Stop by the Stenovations booth for a test drive on the LightSpeed.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1750971156860822982.post-38594414160626565782010-03-06T12:26:00.001-06:002010-03-06T12:27:22.855-06:00New LSXHi, LightSpeeders!

Here is a new deal for the new, improved silicon overlay, or LSX, which is not out yet and we have no estimated date.

Johnny has determined that the silicon overlay is not sensitive enough. He has developed a new silicon overlay, the LSX, which will have softer silicon and some modifications: adding more sensors to make the sensitivity equal to the original LS, sensors under the cracks (woot!) and dedicated keys to the AO and EU. Don't ask me how this is going to look, because I have no idea. I don't have a concept or other picture. Someone posted on here that Carmen had a picture in California, but I haven't seen it.

If you have a silicon overly LS, you can send it in and have the new overlay (when it's ready, and, no, I don't know when that will be) installed in your writer. There will be an extension of the warranty for the reporters who have bought the current silicon overlay model. The new LSX overlay will be installed at no cost and their warranty extended a year from that date.

He has said, if you plan on having the new LSX installed in your current silicon overlay, you can trim the ridges without voiding the warranty. The new LSX will be $3,000. We will let the original LS owners to trade in at the 100% policy on the LSX or the StarLight, which will have the same keyboard as the LSX.

I'm off to find the razor blade to trim my ridges!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1750971156860822982.post-46727564565691109562010-03-03T20:15:00.001-06:002010-03-03T20:16:53.567-06:00LapdeskMany LS users don't like the tripod and put the writer in their lap. You may want a lapdesk if you decide to use it in your lap. There were a lot of comments from people who prefer the feel of the new one over the original.

I'm calling her Bubblegum, because that is how pink she is.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1750971156860822982.post-28117763107731872702010-01-08T16:44:00.003-06:002010-01-08T16:47:57.994-06:00New LightSpeeds delivered! It's been a long delay, but the new LightSpeeds are finally being received by the customers. My friend Mary received hers today and came straight over to play!

There are added ridges that were not on the prototypes we had at the NCRA convention in August, and I think they're a good improvement.

Other things I learned today:
The blue light does not come on unless something has gone wrong with your SD card. Previously, it flashed when you turned on your writer and when the LS was saving to disk.

If you pop out the SD card, the writer turns off and pops a message up on your computer screen, so you know that it's popped out. Previously there was no notification if it popped out. You just pop it back in, turn on the writer, and continue.

There is a new GUI with the writer which I have not explored completely. More on that later!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1750971156860822982.post-35459485500723218922009-09-18T16:54:00.003-05:002009-09-20T09:00:40.022-05:00New LightSpeed

The new LightSpeed with the silicon overlay -- a real one!

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1750971156860822982.post-83724335091614283402009-09-11T07:03:00.002-05:002009-09-11T07:09:03.374-05:00GSRA conference this weekendI'm going to Hiawaseee, Georgia, at The Ridges resort for the Georgia Shorthand Reporters Association Fall Seminar. You must buy the contract within 30 days of the receipt of the email which was sent out (assuming you've had your writer the full year).

If you buy a support contract outside of the year, it is $300 plus a $200 penalty, for $500.

If you have had your writer less than a year, the contract will be available at the one-year anniversary for $300. You will be sent notice from Stenovations. You will have 30 days to purchase the contract at $300. If you do not purchase the contract and decide later to purchase it, it will be $300, plus a penalty of $200, for $500. If you then re-up the contract after the next year, it is $300.

If you have bought your LightSpeed used from someone other than Stenovations, your first support contract will be $300 plus the $200 penalty, for $500, then $300/year after that.

The contract covers defective parts, software upgrades, tech support. It does not cover damage caused due to misuse, etc.

Loaners: Loaners, based upon availability, will be sent out if repairs cannot be done within 48 hours of receiving writer.

They are mulling the per-call support suggestion.

You do not have to be on an active support contract to use the trade-in option on the "next generation" of LightSpeed. You do have to be the original purchaser to use this trade-in option. The current redesign of the key overlay (from individual hard keys to a rubber-like overlay) is not a new generation.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1750971156860822982.post-65028967771779892732009-05-05T09:07:00.002-05:002009-05-05T09:09:11.091-05:00Success?!Bright and early Saturday morning, my LightSpeed and went to Prince Institute and sat for the Certified Realtime Reporter examination. We had a good test!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1750971156860822982.post-16373244386269601732009-05-04T09:17:00.004-05:002009-05-04T09:19:43.938-05:00Certified Realtime Reporter examI took the CRR test Saturday on my LS. I'm hopeful that I passed. I stacked a couple of words with the period, leaving "B" for "about." and another capital letter for another word/period stack. I think I saw about three untranslates, and a few "s" or "ed" endings which shouldn't have been in the word. But no time to replace words from the writer; it was stressful enough to just write it!

I'm aware of one other LightSpeeder who was taking the exam. Waiting to hear from you, Tina!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
